Hi! I'm Richard Van Noorden, a journalist at Nature, in London.
One of my side-projects is being in charge of our Toolbox section, which we recently launched to highlight and discuss scientific software, apps, and digital tools.
A Toolbox article appears once a month in print, and the website is regularly updated online with stories, interviews and opinion columns - either specially commissioned for the section, or drawn from across NPG publications.
I'm lurking on this forum to see what people are talking about. I want to figure out how to explain new tools and put them in context for researchers without using the jargon that can be so off-putting to beginners in the field. As a beginner myself (I can't really code in any language ... yet), I think I'm well placed to do this.
I should add that I have also reported on text-mining, publishing, and open access for Nature.
If you have any feedback on Toolbox, or any suggestions on what we might run - or indeed, any ideas for wider Nature data-journalism - do get in touch with me (firstinitial.lastname[at]nature.com) or I'm also @Richvn on twitter.
